TROPICAL Depression Odette continues to pose threat to Cagayan province, where it is expected to make landfall Thursday night, October 12, said the state weather bureau.

As of 4 p.m. Thursday, the tropical cyclone was located at 285 kilometers east of Aparri, Cagayan, packing maximum winds of up to 55 kilometers per hour (kph) and gusts of up to 65 kph, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said its latest bulletin.

It was forecast to move west at 30 kph and expected to be at 185 kilometers west of Laoag City, Ilocos Norte, by Friday morning, added the weather bureau.

Placed under Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal Number 1 are the provinces of Batanes, Cagayan, including Babuyan group of Islands, Isabela, Apayao, Abra, Kalinga, Mountain Province, Ifugao, Ilocos Norte and Ilocos Sur.

Pagasa said that Odette will bring moderate to heavy rains in areas within its 350-kilometer.

"Sea travel remains risky over the northern and eastern seaboards of northern Luzon due to the northeasterly surface windflow enhanced by the approaching tropical depression," said Pagasa. (LMY/SunStar Philippines)
