THE state weather bureau has placed Eastern Samar province on Wednesday under Tropical Storm Warning Signal Number 1 as Tropical Depression Urduja slightly changed its course while moving closer to Sorsogon-Northern Samar area.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said Eastern Samar would experience 30 to 60 kilometers per hour (kph) winds in the next 36 hours.

Pagasa said that at 4 p.m. Wednesday, December 13, Urduja was located at 395 kilometers (km) east of Guiuan, Eastern Samar.

The tropical cyclone was forecast to move northwest at 7 kph, Pagasa said, adding that Urduja is expected to be at 260 km east of Borongan City, Eastern Samar, by Thursday afternoon, December 14.

Urduja, the 21st tropical cyclone in the country this year, was packing maximum winds of 55 kph near the center and gusts of up to 65 kph, added Pagasa.

With this, scattered to widespread rains is expected over Visayas and Bicol Region.

Pagasa said that fisherfolk and those with small seacrafts must not to venture out over the eastern seaboard of Bicol Region and Eastern Visayas province due to moderate to rough seas. (DDA/SunStar Philippines)
