NATIONAL Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) director Oscar Albayalde on Friday, January 12, expressed support for the order of Interior and Local Government Undersecretary Martin Dino to require barangays to submit a list of drug personalities in their area.
“Ako, naniniwala ako na lahat ng barangay chairman o kapitan kilala kung sino ‘yung mga nakatira sa kanilang barangay dahil tuwing eleksyon, nagha-house-to-house sila,” he said.
“Kasama po ‘yan sa serbisyo publiko. Kaya po tayo nagpa-elect para mag-serbisyo sa publiko,” he added.
Dino was appointed by President Rodrigo Duterte as DILG undersecretary for barangay affairs four months after he was removed from as the chairman of the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority.
He said that to ensure that barangay officials will continue participating in the government’s crackdown against illegal drugs, he will order them to submit list of drug personalities in their area.
Dino said those who will not follow his order may face sanction to the extent of being removed from the office.
However, following criticisms his order had gained, Dino said he will consult first his legal team before issuing memorandum on the directive.
Earlier, human rights lawyer Gilbert Andres of the Center for International Law said Dino’s order may violate the Constitution.
In response, Dino assured that the list from barangay officials will undergo stringent verification. (SunStar Philippines)
