A LAWYER survived an attack early Tuesday morning, February 13, by ramming into his motorcycle-riding assailants.
One of the three assailants, a police officer who had been declared absent without leave (AWOL), was killed while another was injured.
Lawyer Argel Joseph Cabatbat said he was driving near the corner of East Avenue and Edsa around 12:30 a.m. Tuesday when three men on board two motorcycles fired at him.
Cabatbat said he rammed his car into one of the motorcycles, killing one suspect and injuring another. The other suspect fled.
“Inambush ako tapos minalas sila (They ambushed me but luck was not on their side),” said Cabatbat, who admitted receiving death threats prior to the attack.
He said he believed the attack was work-related.
The slain suspect was identified as Police Officer 1 Mark Ayeras, based on the PNP identification card found in his belongings, while another suspect was identified as John Paul Cerillo, a former overseas Filipino worker.
Chief Superintendent Guillermo Eleazar, Quezon City Police District (QCPD) director, confirmed Ayeras was a former member of the QCPD but was transferred to the National Capital Region Police Office's (NCRPO) anti-illegal drugs unit.
However, PNP spokesperson Chief Superintendent John Bulalacao said Ayera had gone AWOL since August 10, 2017.
Police seized a 9mm pistol and .45 pistol from the neutralized suspects.
Investigation is ongoing to determine the motive of the attack while a manhunt has been launched against the third suspect. (SunStar Philippines)
