Aquino appoints new GSIS president

MANILA -- President Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III has again entrusted another crucial government office to an alumnus of Ateneo de Manila University, the Chief Executive’s alma mater.

Aquino named Robert Vergara as replacement of Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) President Winston Garcia.

The appointment was announced by Presidential spokesperson Edwin Lacierda in an informal press briefing Monday.

Together with Vergara, other new appointees of President Aquino include: George Yu, Ramon Felipe Reyes, Danilo Gozo as members of GSIS board of trustee.

Aquino also named Jose Cuisia Jr., Daniel Edralin, and Marianita Mendoza as commissioners representing particular groups in Social Security System.

Cuisia represents employer’s group while Edralin and Mendoza represent worker’s group.

Others installed were Grace Cenas was as administrator of National Dairy Authority; Ponciano Batugal, Cesar Villariba Jr., Rafael Sarucam, and Marcos Dumandan as members of government board of Philippine Coconut Authority; Domingo Diaz and Tomas De Leon Jr. as member of the board of land bank of the Philippines.
