Evidence vs Lacson weak, says kin

MANILA -- The family of Senator Panfilo Lacson defended him Saturday, saying a statement implicating him in Dacer-Corbito double murder case is "an absolute lie”.

In an open letter received by Lacson’s office that was forwarded to the members of media, seven of his relatives said evidence against the fugitive senator is weak.

Lacson’s relatives said the sworn affidavit of Cesar Mancao, a former policeman, claiming to have witnessed a conversation where the senator allegedly ordered publicist Salvador Dacer killed was a fabrication.

They said the conversation never happened and that Lacson was in the US when Mancao claims to have overheard him giving the order.

They added Lacson is hiding from "an evil conspiracy to put him away because of his anti-graft and corruption crusade”.

The letter was signed by Romulo, Feliciano, Reynaldo, Juanito, and Ernani Lacson, Ma. Corazon Lacson-Magpayo, and Ma. Cristina Lacson-Diaz. (Jonathan de Santos/Sunnex)
