MANILA (Updated 9:02 a.m.) -- A lone lottery ticket sold in the country's main island of Luzon hit the elusive P741 million Grand Lotto 6/55 jackpot - the biggest ever in the history of the state-sanctioned lottery.
The winning combination in Monday night's Grand Lotto draw was 11-16-42-47-31-37. It carried a prize of P741,176,323.20, according to the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO).
The said amount is the biggest won in the state-run lotto history. It has surpassed the P347,836,903.20 prize of 6/49 Super Lotto that was won last February 22, 2009 by two lucky bettors.
PCSO central operations manager Arnel Casas said the bettor who won the winning combination bought the winning ticket at a lotto outlet inside the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority in Olongapo City.
With the number of people who frequent the Subic Bay port, Casas said the winner could be someone who just came there to visit the area.
He said for the lucky bettor to win the prize, he or she has to go to the PCSO main office at the PICC Building, CCP Complex in Pasay City. The bettor has to present the winning ticket and a valid identification card to claim the prize.
The PCSO official also said they will still validate the winning ticket based on the security record it carries.
Asked as to how much the lotto operator will get, Casas said the agent seller's prize will be one percent of the minimum lotto jackpot, which is P30 million, plus .5 percent of the excess of the P30 million.
Casas, however, said that the agent seller might only get P500,000.
He also said that the P741-million jackpot prize must be claimed within one year, or else it will be reverted back to the PCSO for charity.
The PCSO said there are 28.9 million possible combinations in the 6/55 game, and only about 25 percent of those combinations have bets on them before Monday's draw.
The Grand Lotto draws are on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays. (Sunnex)
