THE National Police Commission (Napolcom) said close to 20,000 examinees wanted to join the Philippine National Police (PNP) this year as revealed in its entrance examinations Sunday.

Napolcom Vice Chairman and Executive Officer Eduardo Escueta said a total of 38,905 took the entrance and promotional tests in Makati City and 23 testing centers nationwide.

Escueta disclosed that 19,879 took the PNP entrance examination while 19,026 are for promotional service exams.

“Metro Manila accounts for 5,044 of the total number of examinees -- 2,493 for the entrance test and 2,551 for the promotional level,” Escueta added.

The examinations covered the qualifying exam for Police Officer 1 (entry level) and the promotional examinations for Police Officer 2 and 3; Senior Police Officer (for SPO1 to SPO4); Police Inspector (for Inspector and Senior Inspector); and Police Superintendent (for Chief Inspector and Superintendent).

Napolcom-Personnel and Administrative Service Chief Isidro Siriban said Metro Manila examinees took the test at Benigno Aquino High School, Fort Bonifacio High School and Pembo Elementary School, all in Makati City.

To ensure that their will be no repeat of cheating, the Napolcom banned examinees from bringing cellular phones and other electronic gadgets inside the examination rooms. (AH/Sunnex)
