THE leadership of the Philippine National Police relieved the Sulu provincial police chief and his intelligence officer in connection with the Christmas Day bombing in Jolo town.
PNP chief Director General Raul Bacalzo sacked Senior Superintendent Shepard Reyes after reports revealed that there was already intelligence information on the threat on the Catholic Church before the incident.
The blast resulted in the wounding of at least 11 people who were attending a mass inside Camp Asturias, headquarters of the Sulu provincial police office.
PNP spokesman Agrimero Cruz said Reyes and his subordinate officer were administratively relieved, pending the results of the investigation of the PNP.
Prior to the explosion, the Sulu PPO and the Philippine Marines received intelligence information that Catholic churches in the province would be bombed.
The bombings were to be carried out by Abu Sayyaf members Sali Said, Najib Magdal, Alhabsi Misaya, Kahil Kadih, an alias Alal, and an alias Khan. (VR/Sunnex)
