AS PART of the intensified campaign against the influenza A(H1N1) virus, the Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA) on Thursday said it will disinfect trains and coaches plying the LRT’s Line 1.
LRTA administrator Melquiades Robles said trains coming from Baclaran to Monumento in Caloocan will be disinfected before they are allowed to run on their tracks.

“This procedure will be done to prevent the spread of AH1N1 virus and to allay the concern of our passengers,” Robles said.
He said they are also eyeing the conduct of an information drive for LRT passengers to ensure that they are properly equipped with the knowledge regarding the mutant virus.
Meanwhile, the Line 1's operation of the LRT was shortly disrupted Thursday morning after one of its trains malfunctioned.
Robles said they briefly halted operations after a train approaching the Monumento station at 7:15 a.m. lost air pressure, an incident which might cause the brakes to lock.
The train, he said, had to be towed away, causing the delay. Operations, however, began to normalize at 8 a.m.
Robles said authorities would try to fix the train soon, but assured that the LRT has sufficient trains to continue with operations. (AH/Sunnex)
