Mar, Korina exchange vows

VICE Presidentiable Senator Mar Roxas and Korina Sanchez tied the knot Tuesday to a closed-door wedding in front of 2,000 guests.

The bridal entourage, as well as the principal sponsors, marched from outside Sto. Domingo church towards their designated places.

Before walking down the aisle, Sanchez was surrounded with white cloth that covered her.

The bride was revealed along with the opening of the church's doors.

Sanchez wore a “pina-style mermaid outfit” designed by local designer Filipino Albert.

She tried to keep tears from falling while walking down the aisle as the song "Basta't Kasama Kita" played.

Roxas was also teary-eyed as her bride was given to him.

Korina’s brother Mike Sanchez walked the bride down the aisle.

The world of showbiz and politics merged again, as principal sponsors include Chief Justice Reynato Puno, Liberal Party chairman emeritus Jovito Salonga, ABS-CBN chairman Eugenio Lopez III, Roxas’s uncle George Araneta and Liberal Party-mate and Presidentiable Senator Noynoy Aquino.

Actress Rosa Rosal, broadcast journalist Cheche Lazaro, Helen Costales, best friend of Sanchez's mother, Baby Fores and Ruby Roxas, both aunts of the groom served as ninangs.

Couple James Yap and Kris Aquino accompanied their son James, who served as ring-bearer, to the aisle.

Roxas's 16-year-old son Paolo was his best man.

Coverage to the wedding of the year was only granted to selected media personnel.

Guidelines, which included the drawing of lots that will determine, where cameramen will be positioned, were released to certain media outfits.

Earlier, the couple decided to forego their P3 million reception that was supposed to be held in Araneta Coliseum and instead donated P2.2 million to various charities as relief assistance to the victims of typhoons Ondoy and Pepeng.

In a press statement, the engaged couple announced that the money was given to Caritas Philippines (P500,000), ABS-CBN Foundation Sagip Kapamilya (P500,000), GMA Kapuso Foundation (P500,000), Philippine National Red Cross – National Blood Service (P250,000), Philippine National Red Cross (P250,000), Igan Foundation (P100,000), and ABS-CBN Foundation Kapamilya Shower Na Project (P100,000).

In lieu of the reception, pandesal and refreshments were served to the people who will be watching after the ceremony.

The couple also hosted a separate dinner for their entourage at the Roxas's ancestral house. (Angela Casauay/Sunnex)
