Monday, June 7, 2010

BOOKWORMS rushed to the newly-renovated Powerbooks in Greenbelt 4 in Makati City as the specialty bookstore redefined one's reading experience.

Powerbooks not only awed the guests with its new architecture courtesy of Joey Yupangco, but also unveiled its newest logo.

“The butterfly like image of a book, which is our new logo, symbolizes the metamorphosis of Powerbooks,” said Gabby Lijauco, General Manager of Powerbooks.

Lijauco added that it signals a new beginning for the store to aggressively promote literacy in the country.

The store is aiming to deliver more great services, additional titles from different genres and more promos to its avid book lovers.

During the opening, Powebooks tapped television and print personalities to share their book shelves to everyone.

Among those who attended are renowned blogger Cecile Zamora-Van Straten (chuvaness.com), photographer Sara Black, book lovers Ines and Nacho Tambunting, Father and son tandem David and Powie Celdran, Dj Mojo Javier, socialite Tessa Pieto-Valdez and eventologist Tim Yap who also hosted the launch.

According to Lijauco, these personalities share something in common and that is they love discovering new things through scanning the pages of a book.

Tim Yap said books and other reading materials helped him not only when it comes to his work but with how he perceive and view things.

“(Books) helped me in my evolution as a human being so even if I don't do what I do, I will still be enriched because of the books that I read," Yap told Sun.Star.

His book shelf consists of mostly travel and fashion books and other reading material he hopes to read in the future.

When asked for his message to all those kids who are not inclined into reading, Tim said to have a different attitude when it comes to reading.

“When it comes to learning, don't think of it as earning high in your grades but more on because you want to learn,” said Tim.

Lijuaco added that parents should encourage their kids to read even in young age because it will help them big in the long run. “For kids, they should start young. You cannot force a kid to read but you should make them love to read.”

Powerbooks opened its pages to the public in August 1996 and since then, continuously offer more than 200,000 titles in a very competitive price.

They offer a vast collection from Fiction, Lifestyle, Arts, Architecture, History and Biography, Business, Religion and Philosophy, Gender and Culture Studies, Children's literature to Psychology. (Glaiza Jarloc/Sunnex)
