“There is a need to create more opportunities locally to avoid depletion of supply of nurses in the Philippines,” noted Amess.
He added the Filipino patients are missing what other countries are experiencing from Filipino nurses.
“The Filipino nurses are the finest nurses in the world. They are the best advertisement of your country,” stressed Amess.
Based on records of the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), the United Kingdom is home to about 200,000 Filipinos, with some 20,000 employed as nurses.
Amess said the Philippine government could create more plantilla positions in the country for nurses especially in rural areas, citing the importance of decent wages and benefits for the health workers.(AMN/Sunnex)
