IN A follow-up to last year’s event, the National Basketball Association (NBA) will stage this August a 3-on-3 tournament that will provide players with an opportunity to brush up their skills and compete among their peers.
Slated August 17-19 at the SM Mall of Asia Music Hall and SM by the Bay, competition groups include ages 10-18 for boys and ages 13-17 for girls and open divisions for men and women.
Meantime, two Philippine finalists will be selected to be part of the global pool from which 2012 NBA Champion and MVP Lebron James and NBA Superstar Kobe Bryant will chose their teams, Team Sudden and Team Intense, respectively.
The Sprite Uncontainable Game, the brand’s largest ever basketball program, teams up with six NBA players to discover 24 of the most creative, undiscovered amateur ballers from around the world to represent either Team Sudden or Team Intense at the NBA All-Star 2013 in Houston, Texas.
If picked to be part of either team, finalists will get a trip to next year’s All Star event.
Registration started last Saturday on a first come first serve basis until August 10. Fees are P800 and P1200 for age groups and open divisions, respectively.
During the three-day competitions, organizers said fans will be entertained by NBA dance team performances, mascot appearances, NBA merchandise giveaways, live bands and DJs.
Players from local professional and college leagues, as well as celebrities, will also attend the event. It is also possible that an NBA player will come over to grace the event but details have yet to be announced. (Virgil Lopez/Sunnex)
