Rematch of FEU, NU basketball game set

FAR Eastern University (FEU) and National University (NU) will meet for the third time this season after the UAAP Board overruled the basketball commissioner's decision to honor the game-winning layup of ace Tamaraw RR Garcia.
"Because of the pieces of evidences/statements/video used in the deliberation were inconclusive and unclear and most of the points brought up showed that time had expired before the ball was fully released, the UAAP Board unanimously upheld the appeal of NU for a replay of the game that is scheduled on September 23, 2012," the UAAP technical committee said.
De La Salle University's Henry Atayde, a member of the committee, said NU athletic director Junel Baculi did not participate in the deliberation on Friday at the Club Filipino in San Juan City.
FEU won over NU last Sunday, 77-75, but the Bulldogs immediately lodged a protest, which UAAP commissioner Ato Badolato junked on Wednesday. This prompted NU to elevate the matter to the league's technical committee and the board.
With the decision, NU's record went back to 6-4, one game behind fourth-running La Salle (7-4). FEU, on the other hand, holds a 7-3 slate. (Virgil Lopez/Sunnex)
