Cebu’s Sacred Heart to defend NBTC crown-A A +A
Sunday, February 24, 2013
SIXTEEN teams including two-time defending champion Sacred Heart-Ateneo de Cebu will compete for the right to be called the best high school squad in the country this year.
Schools such as St. Albert D' Great School (Dagupan City), Sacred Heart of Jesus Montessori School (Cagayan de Oro City), San Beda College (Manila), National University (Manila), and Holy Child College of Davao will be joining the Magis Eagles in the Seaoil National Basketball Training Center Elite League National High School Championships.
For the final phase, all teams will figure in knockout matches from March 1 and 2 at the Philsports Arena and Ynares Center in Pasig City while the championship round will take place on March 3 after the All-Star Game.
Behind Julius Cadavis and Henry Asilum, the Magis Eagles repulsed the late-game rally of the La Union College of Nursing Arts and Sciences, 90-78, last year to get Cebu’s third consecutive crown in the league.
Cebu had its first championship courtesy of the University of the Visayas in 2010.
Cadavis, who was named NBTC’s Most Valuable Player in 2012, is now with the Arellano University Chiefs in the NCAA while Asilum plays for the University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons in the UAAP.
NBTC, which screened over 200 schools from 20 cities nationwide this year, is the official high school basketball tournament of the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP). (Virgil Lopez/Sunnex)
