FLOWER and candle vendors at the Libingan ng mga Bayani (Heroes Cemetery) are not too happy with this year’s turnout of their businesses.
Racquel, a flower vendor in the area, said their earnings this year is lower as compared to last year.
“Wala masyadong bumibili. Matumal yung bentahan namin,” said Racquel.
Flowers cost from P150 up to P700 while candles are available from P10 to P75.
Vendors located outside of the cemetery said that most of the buyers are trying to compromise with a cheaper price on their flower arrangements.
“Syempre tatawad pa yan. Kesa wala na kaming benta eh di babawasan na lang namin yung presyo, minsan wala na kaming tubo,” Arnel Timon said.
Not only flower and candle stalls are set-up outside the cemetery.
Donuts, "kwek-kwek", fishball, small canteens even broadband companies set up a booth to make the most out of the numbers of visitors paying their respect with their deceased family member.
Most of the vendors will be staying until Monday evening.
"Magbebenta kami hanggang mamayang gabi para makabawi naman dun sa mga paninda namin (We will be selling all the items until later this evening so that we can at least get our money back)," Racquel said.
Most of the flower and candle vendors in the area set up their stalls as early as October 29 and was damaged when Typhoon Santi hit Metro Manila and other provinces in Luzon. (Glaiza Jarloc/Sunnex)
