Volunteers join race for cancer patients

THE Cancer Warriors Foundation (CWF) volunteers will participate in an event for their benefit organized by the University of the Philippines Circle of Entrepreneurs (UPCE).

The UPCE will hold the "Feet on Fire: Race Against Cancer" on November 8 at the McKinley Hill, Taguig City for cancer patients in the CWF.

UPCE Entrepreneurial Ad Hoc Publicity Officer Hanna Sanosa said their group believes that entrepreneurship should not only be about money but also about helping other people.

"We saw an opportunity to make a running event, since it's steadily gaining popularity here but we also knew that service must be a part of it. By organizing this, we can extend our service outside the university, and promote fitness while helping the Cancer Warriors Foundation," said Sanosa.

Events will cover 3 kilometers (km) with a registration fee of P200, 5 km for P250, 10 km for P300, 15 km for P350, and a 6 km relay for P500. Three runners are required for the relay.

Registration started last October 16.

Interested runners may register in the following areas: McKinley Hill showroom in Fort Bonifacio, McKinley Information Center in McKinley Hill and 407-B College of Business Administration, UP Diliman.

As of October 26, few runners have registered for the race, said Sanosa but the organizers expect the number of participants to go up a week or two weeks prior the event.

The CWF is also showing tremendous support for UPCE as volunteers have started to register and race for the cause.

"The people from Cancer Warriors Foundation we're nice and welcoming. I think they are excited for the event as we are," said Sanosa.

During the event, a representative from CWF will also talk about their organization.

A fashion show will also take place in the one-day event for cancer patients.

The CWF was founded with an aim to help young cancer patients by giving them proper care, according to its website. (Kathrina Alvarez/Sunnex)
