Bayani pursues presidential bid

METROPOLITAN Manila Development Authority (MMDA) chairman Bayani Fernando said he would run as an independent presidential candidate in 2010.

Fernando, in an interview at the inauguration of the Malabon Bus Terminal through Radyo ng Bayan, said he just have to accept and respect the decision of his party to support another candidate and pursue his political plans on his own.

“Even if alone and independent... we can do nothing about the decision of my party.. they did not choose me.. that is why I'll run as independent candidate,” he said when asked if he would push through with his plans to run for president.

Fernando's party Lakas-Kampi-CMD chose Defense Secretary Gilbert Teodoro to be its standard bearer for president for the 2010 elections.

The MMDA chief attended the inauguration of the Malabon Bus Terminal while the administration party was holding the executive committee in Malacanang.

The executive committee is expected to firm up its 2010 plans including the possible choices for the party's vice presidential and senatorial bets.
