Bello unsure about 2010 plans (3:25 p.m.)

MANILA -- Cabinet Secretary Silvestre Bello III has not arrived at a decision whether to run or not in the coming May 2010 elections.

Bello said in an ambush interview during the filing of candidacy of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo Tuesday that he has yet to file candidacy for any position.

Bello is part of the senatorial slate of administration’s party Lakas-Kampi-CMD.

“I need to talk to the President first,” he said.

He added that he needs to seek a lot of consultation from seasoned political officials and his family as well.

“I'm waiting for a talk with my wife. Our agreement is that at 4:00 she will drop by at the office and accompany me to file. If she does not follow, she does not see me at 4 -- that means she does not want me to run,” he said.

The Palace official said his wife wants him to go back to his former post as congressman in Isabela.

“Her inclination is in Isabela. She wants me to run for Congress…The family has to get involved in this because they are more affected.”

But Bello hinted that his heart gears towards Congress than seek for national position as senator.

“Otherwise, I have a ready COC in Isabela,” he said.

Bello is the only cabinet member included in the senatorial slate of Lakas-Kampi.

Other senatorial bets of the ruling party are Senator Lito Lapid, radio broadcaster Rey Langit, Pangasinan Mayor Ramon Guico, and Senator Bong Revilla. (Jill Beltran/Sunnex)
