A CARGO vessel carrying 887 metric tons of dried coconut meat (copra) was reportedly stalled and listing on its side off Guimaras island, the Philippine Coast Guard said in its website Thursday.
A radio report said M/V Wing Star was on its way to Iligan City in Northern Mindanao when it stopped at mid-sea reportedly due to a hole in its bow section.
Coast Guard Iloilo Commander Eduardo Fabricante said all 17 crew of the cargo vessel were safe. Coast guard personnel were deployed to secure the vessel.
He discounted the possibility of an oil spill in the area.
Coast Guard Iloilo has requested technical divers from Cebu to assess the condition of the vessel.
Fabricante said they were still investigating what caused the vessel to tilt in the middle of the sea. (Sunnex)
