DFA monitors drug cases of Pinoys in China (5:17 p.m.)

MANILA -- Malacanang on Thursday assured that the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) is closely monitoring the cases of five Filipinos in China who are facing execution for drug-related offenses.

Presidential Communications Operations Secretary Herminio Coloma said there has been available channel to ensure fair and just trial for the five accused, four of them are women.

The five were meted death penalty without reprieve.

“The Department of Foreign Affairs is closely monitoring the situation and would like to avail itself of available diplomatic channels that would ensure a fair and just treatment of our Filipino nationals,” Coloma said.

He added that the DFA is equipped with appropriate recommendations if additional measures are needed. (Jill Beltran/Sunnex)
