WE MAY be bidding goodbye to 2013 tomorrow, but photos and topics made viral or trending in social networking sites will leave a mark in what would be then an eventful year.

Sex video scandals of celebrities made it to the top 10 most searched keywords on Google in 2013.

Sex video footages of Parokya ni Edgar lead vocalist and actress Neri Naig made noise after they were circulated rapidly on the Internet. Miranda, however, kept it cool by sweeping away the issue and posting sweet couple photos on his Instagram account. [Read the story.]

Another talk of the town was the sex video allegedly of comedian Wally Bayola and EB Babes member Yosh Rivera that went viral last September. Bayola was since never seen on the noon show Eat Bulaga. [Read the story.]

The country has once again proved to be a homeland of beauty queens, as it continued to produce this year beauty titlists in the international scene.

Filipina beauty Megan Young bested 126 entrants around the world as she took home the coveted Miss World title last September 28. Filipinos, including those living abroad, congratulated Young on social media, making it a trending topic that lasted for more than a week. [Read the story.]

Other Pinay prides who also made it to the social networking sites' viral topics were #MissUniverse2013 third runner-up Ariella Arida and #MissInternational2013 Bea Rose Santiago.

Millions of people across the globe mourned for the death of Nelson Mandela, one of the world's most beloved statesmen and the colossus of the 20th century. Mandela, who died at the age of 95, was known for emerging from 27 years in prison to negotiate an end to white minority rule in South Africa. [Read the story.]

On his way to a charity event for Super Typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan) victims in the Philippines, 40-year-old "Fast & Furious" movie star Paul Walker died in a fiery car crash in Los Angeles. A roadway memorial was planned by fans over social media and as expected, thousands of people came to pay tribute to their favorite action star.

Walker's death topped the most searched topics in Google Philippines. [Read the story.]

Loyal Glee fans flooded Twitter and other social networking sites after news of Cory Monteith's death broke out last July 13. The Canadian-born actor, who played star quarterback-turned-singer Finn Hudson on TV series Glee, was found dead in his hotel room in Vancouver. [Read the story.]

If you are a Filipino tax payer, then you probably would be familiar with #JanetLimNapoles, the controversial businesswoman who has been under the public's watch after she allegedly pocketed pork barrel and Malampaya gas funds through fake non-government organizations. Filipinos took over twitter to express their anger against the alleged pork barrel scam mastermind. [Read the story.]

Angry netizens took over social media to complain about airport employees while on duty. In the picture, you can see a long line of passengers and two Ninoy Aquino International Airport employees playing “Candy Crash” behind the counter.

The whole country was moved by Police Officer 1 Joselito Sevilla who suddenly cried during a rally on Commonwealth Avenue in Quezon City. In the picture, a rallyist is seen hugging the policeman who is crying after exchanging words with a foreigner. Netizens took over Facebook to express sympathy. Others though, thought the image of the crying police was cute.

3. Jessie Mallari

A Sun.Star reporter in Davao City took a photo of a police officer helping a beggar outside San Pedro Cathedral. The photo with a caption “He's but an old beggar having his simple lunch outside the San Pedro Cathedral awaiting the crowd from Palm Sunday mass, except that he has a wound on his head from an unknown cause. He is seen here being attended to by a policeman who is fixing the bandage on his head,” went viral, making Police Officer 1 Jessie Mallari an instant star. Mallari even now appears in a television commercial.

This wedding behind the ruins photo shows Filipino groom Earvin Nierva, left, kissing his bride Rise while posing for their wedding picture in front of damaged homes and a ship that was washed ashore when Super Typhoon Yolanda hit Visayas, including Tacloban city, where the couple resides.

1. Internet “Memes”

“Memes” are edited images of a person that are spread via the internet. They are usually edited by putting funny captions, which does not excuse Senator Miriam Defensor Santiago and alleged pork barrel scam mastermind Janet Lim Napoles.
