CEBU - It’s just a few days to a one-of-a-kind musical event in Cebu City.
Carlo Gentile, Regional Director of the Work of Mary or Focolare Movement for the Visayas and Mindanao (GEN ROSSO), said the international performing arts group Focolare Movement breezes into town for a unique musicale on February 21 and 22 at the Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu.
Gen Rosso just arrived in Cebu - the last leg of their Philippine tour, coming in from Davao, Masbate and Manila.
The group is currently composed of eighteen members from eight nations: Brazil, Tanzania, Argentina, Congo, Spain, Italy, Switzerland, Philippines.
With over 2,500 shows in 49 nations around the world, GEN ROSSO highlights how the multi-racial performing arts group weaves contemporary music, choreography and modern stage techniques into a show addressing social issues of conflict and violence such as bullying in schools, homes and in the workplace.
This event is something young people, parents, educators, lay leaders and all agents of evangelization must watch.
Entitled "STREETLIGHT: Spark for change," the musicale tells the story of Charles Moats, an African-American living in a Chicago ghetto in the late 1960’s. At 17, Moats finds himself caught between enemy lines in a gang war. However, convinced that unity and brotherhood are not only beautiful ideas but ideals to live for, he opted to say no to violence for which he eventually paid dearly with his own life.
It was his 'YES' to this ideal of unity, it could be gleaned in hindsight, which proves that peace, based on genuine brotherhood, is indeed possible as could be seen in the musicale Streetlight.
Preparatory activities have already started with workshops among student participants from Sacred Heart-Ateneo de Cebu, the University of Cebu High School, and different youth organizations.
While the main goal of the project is to discover and strengthen the positive values and potentials of the youth as proactive agents against bullying, delinquency and youth violence, the proceeds it hopes to generate will be used to assist #giveuptogiveback project- a rehabilitation project of the victims of super typhoon Yolanda, Gentile said.
