MANILA -- Ang Kapatiran presidential bet John Carlo "JC" de los Reyes will officially name his ticket in Lupang Pangako B, Payatas, Quezon City at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday.
In a statement, the party opted to hold its proclamation rally in the former dumpsite as a symbol of the government's failure to alleviate poverty in the country.
“This is the failure of government to address the needs of the poorest of the poor due to the lust for power and prestige of those called to serve the people, and the monstrous corruption of elected officials in cahoots with business giants,” Ang Kapatiran said.
Joining de los Reyes is his running-mate Dominador Chipeco, a worker’s rights advocate and HR Management practitioner (Vice President) and his senatorial slate.
The eight senatorial candidates are as follows: social scientist Rizalito David, family rights and life advocate Atty. Jo Imbong, Atty. Zosimo Jesus Paredes, mediation counselor Atty. Maria Gracia Rinoza-Plazo, consumer rights lawyer Adrian Sison, professor Reginald Tamayo, Ret. Col. Hector “Tarzan” Tarrazona, and former United Nations officer Manuel Valdehuesa.
The four-year-old Church-based party is also fielding over 50 local candidates nationwide.
“The candidates of Ang Kapatiran Party pledge to give preferential option to the poor, the oppressed, and the weak by using the power of their office in service of the common good, and by living a simple lifestyle in contrast with many government officials who flaunt wealth, privilege and exemption from the law,” the statement added.
In the latest Pulse Asia survey released two weeks ago, a mere 0.3 percent of the respondents said they would vote for De los Reyes, ahead of Kilusang Bagong Lipunan's Vetellano Acosta (0.2) and environmentalist Nicanor Perlas (0.05). (Virgil Lopez/Sunnex)
