Surigao mayor, 2 soldiers abducted

SURIGAO DEL SUR (Updated 11:04 a.m.) -- Suspected communist rebels abducted a mayor and his two military escorts in this province Saturday.
Reports said that Mayor Henry Dano of Lingig town and the two soldiers, who are yet to be identified, were abducted past 5 a.m. by suspected members of the New People's Army.
The armed suspects reportedly barged into the house of Dano and forcibly took the victims.
The suspects, on board three vans, pretended to be members of the National Bureau of Investigation wearing camouflage uniforms.
They reportedly proceeded toward Davao Oriental province.
The motive behind the incident was not yet known.
Police are now conducting hot pursuit operations against the suspects.
Last May 5, 2010, former Lingig town mayor and now Vice Mayor Roberto "Jimmy" Luna Jr., together with four of his security guards, was also abducted in Monkayo, Compostela Valley by the NPAs.
They were released on May 18 at Sitio Pamian, Barangay Bogac in Lingig town. (Sunnex)
