CEBU CITY -- The City Governments of Cebu, Lapu-Lapu, and Talisay ordered on Wednesday the suspension of classes in all levels due to heavy rains brought about by Tropical Depression “Crising.”

Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama announced on Wednesday morning over radio dyLA that classes are suspended in all levels from kindergarten to college in both public and private schools.

Schools in Cebu City, including the CIT-University and Asian College of Technology, also announced the suspension of their classes.

The University of San Carlos only implemented the suspension of classes in the elementary and high school levels.

Lapu-Lapu City administrator Teodulo Ybañez said classes in all levels, also in public and private schools, in their city were cancelled due to possible flooding because of heavy rains.

Vice Mayor Alan Bucao said Mayor Soc Fernandez of Talisay City had also issued a similar directive in their city.

Acting Cebu Governor Agnes Magpale also said she has given the mayors in the different cities and towns in Cebu the discretion to decide if there is a need to suspend classes.

Meanwhile, ‘Crising’ is already on its way out of the Philippine Area of Responsibility and was last spotted over the Sulu Sea.

“Crising” is maintaining its strength as it continues to go west northwest and is now over the Sulu Sea, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).

However, a new Low Pressure Area is spotted somewhere in Palawan and was estimated at 220 kilometers northwest of Puerto Princesa City, Pagasa said. The weather bureaus said, however, that it has a small chance to intensify into a tropical cyclone.

“Based on our models, yung LPA maliit yung tsansa maging bagyo dahil madadaanan ni Crising yung puwesto ng LPA maaaring mag-merge kay Crising yung LPA at mag intensify ito,” Pagasa weather forecaster Jori Loiz explained.

Should the LPA intensify into a cyclone, he said it will be named “Dante” – the fourth tropical cyclone to visit the country this year. (Sunnex/PNA)
