MANILA -- Boxing superstar Manny Pacquiao will be returning to the Philippines on Monday, few days after poor ticket sales forced the cancellation of his Sunday concert in Waikiki, Hawaii.
Pacquiao, who successfully defended his World Boxing Organization (WBO) welterweight crown against Ghanaian challenger Joshua Clottey last March 13, will arrive in Manila onboard a Philippine Airlines flight from Los Angeles, California.
Malacañang and Pacquiao’s patron, former Environment Secretary Lito Atienza are already planning a grand welcome for the boxing pound-for-pound king.
He said the motorcade on Monday would cover a bigger territory than previous parades for him, to allow more fans to congratulate Pacquiao on his latest victory.
Atienza, who is seeking the mayoral post in Manila, said the areas up for consideration are Tayuman, Sta. Ana, Pandacan, Tayuman and San Andres.
Earlier, Nacionalista Party standard-bearer Senator Manny Villar said he is set to give his party-mate a hero’s welcome once Pacquiao gets back to the country.(Virgil Lopez/Sunnex)
