Palace won’t stop politicians on tithing (5:09 p.m.)

Friday, March 12, 2010

MANILA -- Malacanang will not stop presidential candidates and other local officials running in May elections from giving cash donations to Church entities.

In an interview with Sun.Star Friday, Deputy Presidential Spokesperson Gary Olivar said that Malacanang is not in the position to prohibit politicians from doing tithing leaving the matter to the Commission on Elections (Comelec).

“We are hands-off about it because we are not campaigning… We are not part of the electoral process or the campaign process,” Olivar said. (Jill Beltran/Sunnex)
