MANILA (Updated)-- A pre-dawn explosion rocked the head office of San Miguel Corporation (SMC) in Mandaluyong City damaging some signage near the site but no casualties reported.
Eastern Police District (EPD) Director Benjardi Mantele said the explosion occurred around 3 a.m. at the corner of Julia Vargas and San Miguel Avenue.
“We are still investigating the explosion… but damage is minimal. We believe the perpetrators have no intention to create big damage. Probably they just want to catch attention,” Mantele said.
He said the explosion may have been caused by a pillbox, adding that a stronger improvised explosive device (EID) that have been used in the attack would have caused greater damage.
Police quickly set up railings along the sidewalk near the site of the incident to keep pedestrians away.
Mantele said they are also looking into a connection between Monday's explosion and the explosion near Union Bank along Meralco Avenue last October 30. (AH/Sunnex)
