Wednesday, September 8, 2010

MANILA (Updated 11:38 a.m.) -- A house helper of the Ampatuans said during the massacre trial at Camp Bagong Diwa in Bicutan, Taguig City Wednesday that the clan wanted everyone in the convoy killed.

Lapudin Saliao said he was present when relatives and supporters of the Ampatuan clan in Mindanao met and discussed plans to stop political rival Esmael "Toto" Mangudadatu from filing his candidacy for governor.

He said the meeting took place on November 17, 2009 at the mansion of former Maguindanao governor Andal Ampatuan Sr. in Shariff Aguak town, Maguindanao.

On November 23, 2009, more than 100 gunmen allegedly stopped the convoy belonging to Mangudadatu in Ampatuan, Maguindanao.

Saliao said on that day, Andal Ampatuan Jr., who was at the massacre site, called up his father telling him the Mangudadatus convoy was there.

The father asked his son if Mangudadatu was in the convoy but Ampatuan Jr. said only the wife and sisters were there.

The older Ampatuan then ordered his son to kill all in the convoy so that no one will be able to speak to authorities on what happened.

Mangudadatu's wife, Genalyn, was one of the 57 killed in the massacre, which is considered one of the bloodiest election-related incidents in the country's history.

Ampatuan Sr. and former Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (Armm) governor Zaldy Ampatuan is yet to be arraigned by the court.

Nearly 200 individuals are listed on the multiple murder charge sheet though only 62 are currently detained at Camp Bagong Diwa in Bicutan, Taguig City. (Sunnex)
