‘Twin Fiesta 2009’ celebrations kick off

ANGELES CITY -- The “Twin Fiesta” celebrations here formally kicked off on Monday, ushering a month-long festivity of religious, sports, cultural, and merrymaking traditions.

City Tourism Officer Pamela “Pie” Flores said that this year’s activity will feature more than 30 activities that will feature Angeleño “traditions and ingenuity.”

“We have lined-up events that would truly make Angelenos feel proud of their local heritage,” Flores said, stressing that the Twin Fiesta celebrations and other auxiliary events are worthwhile seeing by locals and tourists alike.

The Twin Fiesta celebrations revolve around two religious events here - the La Naval which is held every second Sunday of October and the "Fiestang Apung Mamacalulu" celebrated on the last Friday of the same month.

The twin events have become an integral part of Angeles City's rich culture and heritage since 1992. The festivities have also come to symbolize the emergence of Angeles City as one of the progressive urban centers in Central Luzon.

Also auxiliary events, like the Beach Volleyball Competition, Tilbury Harness Race, Car Show, Boxing Match, Children’s Olympics, Sayaw Central Luzon, and Float Parade among others, are events to watch out for.

Flores added that proceeds from some of the events would be used in the prepping up of the Christmas decorations of the city.

Meanwhile, Mayor Francis Nepomuceno urged residents and local tourists to take advantage of the coming events and watch these with their friends and families.

“There are so many events lined up this year and we are hoping that our people will be able to enjoy these activities with their families,” he said, adding that the events are also aimed that promoting tourism potential of the city.

“We are a strategic location in Central Luzon and a fitting location for events and tourism activities like these,” Nepomuceno said.
