PORAC Mayor Rogelio Santos on Saturday led the inauguration of the newly concreted farm-to-market road in Barangay Planas in the town.
The 200-meter road, which was built for P400,000, was funded through the local government unit’s (LGU) 20 percent development fund and is the 85th barangay road constructed in two years under the first term of Santos. The municipality is utilizing its P20 million development fund by implementing various projects.

Santos said the road project will greatly help his constituents, particularly schoolchildren going to Planas public elementary and high school, saying before the road was concreted, it was rendered impassable during the rainy season due to mud.
“This road will be a big help to the people of Planas as this will become an access road for out commuters and students. Before, they couldn't pass through here, but now they won't have a hard time anymore,” he said.
Santos told Sun.Star that since he assumed office in mid-2007, he has fast tracked various infrastructure projects such as barangay road, multi-purpose halls, canalization projects, medical and dental missions, agriculture and livelihood programs, among others.
Edna Garcia, 36, mother of three children, said she and her family are very thankful to Santos for giving priority to their barangay by constructing the road which is now being used by her children and other children in walking to school.
Barangay chairman Alfred Nacu said he and his councilmen are appreciative of the efforts of Santos in fast tracking the concreting of the road which was done in two months time.
The mayor, meanwhile, also lauded President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo for funding various infrastructure projects such as Porac-Manibaug road, Porac-SCTEX interchange, P9 million Porac pumping station, circumferential road at the Porac district hospital, and Mancatian road. (Chris Navarro)
