4th district folks get relief goods

MACABEBE -- Fourth District Representative Anna York Bondoc-Sagum led a two-day relief operation in flood-affected barangays in Macabebe and Masantol that benefitted 10,000 individuals.

Sagum, whose house was also flooded due to the recent monsoon rains and Typhoon Maring, said on Tuesday that all the 25 barangays in this town and 26 barangays in nearby Masantol town are all flooded.

The lawmaker was on board a four-wheel pick-up truck while distributing 10,000 packs of relief goods consisting of rice, sardines and noodles.

She gave 50,000 empty sacks to be used for sand-bagging operations in the affected barangays, adding that her district is the hardest hit by flooding.

“It's good that my father and my other siblings (Emigio and Rimpy Bondoc) have started the road repair and now, we are continuing this project. Although, every year, our area gets flooded, we don't stop upgrading the roads so that our fellow citizens will not be isolated because of the flood waters,” Sagum said.

She added that although the roads are elevated, houses and school buildings are not making life difficult to school children and her constituents.

Sagum however said she is doing everything she can to address the problem of flooding, citing the recent funding of P50 million coming from President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo for the construction of a school building in her district.

The congresswoman also said that negotiations are underway for a loan package of P3 billion from the Exim Bank in Korea.

She said if the loan will be granted, the fund will be used for the construction of new and modern school buildings for elementary and high school students in the towns of Macabebe, Masantol, Candaba, Apalit, Minalin, Sto. Tomas, San Luis and San Simon.
