City Sports Officer Paul Puri told Sun.Star Pampanga that the Division of Angeles City is expected to land a place in the top ten ranking this year as the Department of education is set to release the official and complete medal tallies this week.

The CLRAA events were held last February 22 to 26 with Angeles City and Malolos, Bulacan playing host to the sporting events. Some 17 divisions participated in this year’s events.

Puri said that the Division of Angeles City bagged gold medals in the secondary boys and girls swimming category.

Also the gold medal in the secondary tennis competition was bagged by both the single boys and girls division.

The city also earned gold medals in the elementary boxing competition and two other gold medals in the athletics category. Puri said that official list of other awards for the city will be out soon.

Meanwhile, Mayor Francis “Blueboy” Nepomuceno expressed delight over the news saying that the city’s investments in sports development have indeed paid off.

He said that the city would need to increase incentives and budget to the sports development program of the city to maintain its standing representation in the CLRAA and the Palarong Pambansa.

“I have instructed our sports coordinator to immediately start the training of our winners so that we can be in the best possible condition in the Palarong Pambansa,” Nepomuceno said, stressing that honors from the city government await the winners in the CLRAA games.

City Administrator Mark Allen Sison, for his part, said that the city government expects more athletes representing Angeles City and Region 3 in the Palarong Pambansa as the city will boost its sports program with the construction of the Angeles City Sports Stadium.

“These winnings will serve as inspirations for both our athletes and officials to strengthen our sports program,” Sison said.
