CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -— It’s going to be a hot Boracay summer for members of the Barangay Del Pilar basketball team.
Third District Representative Aurelio “Dong” Gonzales announced that the champion in the 1st Congressman Dong Gonzales Inter-barangay basketball league will be flown to Boracay for an unexpected summer vacation -- all expense paid.

Barangay Del Pilar defeated Barangay San Pedro Cutud in a fiery championship game attended by some 2,000 spectators from both barangays who filled the entire stretch of the University of the Assumption Gym in the City of San Fernando last Sunday.
According to Tournament chairman Raymund Guevarra, the event was a success, as it managed to entice the participation of majority of barangays in San Fernando.
Gonzales said the good reception of local basketball players in the district had inspired him to continue the sports event in the coming years.
“Public service is not just all about health programs and construction developments, it is also about sports and social alleviation. This sports event is a manifestation that our brand of public service is well-rounded,” Gonzales said.
Aside from a trophies and medals, Barangay Del Pilar basketball team also received P30,000 cash price. Other winners in the inter-barangay basketball tournament include Barangay San Pedro Cutud (1st runner up with trophy, medals, P20,000 cash price), Barangay San Jose (2nd runner up with trophy, medals, P10, 000 cash price) and Barangay Sta. Lucia (3rd runner up with P5, 000 cash price).
This year’s Most Valuable Player (MVP) is VJ Santos of Barangay Del Pilar and was also given P10,000 cash price. The mythical five composed of Ronald Pascual (Del Pilar), Joemer Gacusan (San Jose), Melvin Bangal (San Pedro), Anthony Galindo (San Pedro) and VJ Santos (Del Pilar) were also given P5, 000 each.
Sportsmanship awards of P2,000 each were also given to the barangay captains of Pulung Bulu, Calulut, Maimpis, Sto. Rosario, Sta. Teresita, Magliman, Saguin, Dela Paz Norte, Malino and Baliti.
