CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- As part of its compliance with improving tax collection in Central Luzon, the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) is urging consumers to demand for their receipts when purchasing products or availing services from business establishments.
BIR Regional Director Romulo Aguila Jr. told Sun.Star Pampanga that receipts are among the means used by the BIR in determining if establishments are declaring their actual income and if these are paying the right amount of taxes.
Updates on President Benigno Aquino III's presidency
Aguila said the “The Premyo Sa Resibo” (PSR) promo helps the government a lot in collecting taxes. Shoppers are encouraged to ask for receipts so they could join the promo, while business establishments are obliged to print and issue official receipts or face complaints from the buying public. Each year, the BIR gives prizes to texters under the PSR promo.
According to the BIR, the Premyo sa Resibo is one way of its mechanics to determine whether establishments from where purchases are made are duly registered or not.
Aguila said that presently, BIR is undertaking many on-going tax collection programs - taxes, being the lifeblood of the government.
Besides these, BIR is also accommodating walk-in requests, such as processing certificates of non-filing of income tax returns which are needed by parents whose children are applying for scholarships for the coming school year.
