CLARK FREEPORT -- The SM Store and PLDT Incorporated’s PayMaya Philippines recently announced a partnership that will allow shoppers to purchase goods using the PayMaya application’s QR code scanning platform.
The payment system was made available to all of SM Store’s 59 branches nationwide last December.
PLDT Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Manny Pangilinan said that more Filipinos are using cashless payments with PayMaya.
“We’re excited to work with like-minded companies such as SM in innovating on the retail shopping experience with the help of our payment technologies,” Pangilinan said.
He added that with companies like SM taking the lead, PayMaya QR will be present in more stores and establishments around the country.
PayMaya’s partnership with The SM Store for QR-based payments is in line with the national retail payment system initiative led by the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas to increase the share of electronic transactions in the country by 20 percent by 2020.
SM Store President Chelo Monasterio said the retail landscape is changing and The SM Store is proud to lead the way with partners like PayMaya.
PayMaya is one of the country’s largest online and mobile acquirers in the Philippines, powering card payment acceptance of some of the biggest e-commerce retailers in the country, including Lazada, Zalora, Philippine Airlines and Cebu Pacific.
