In a message, President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo said “the need to put together the best athletes from HEIs and SUCs has never been this urgent in our desire to discover and develop top-caliber athletes who can represent the Philippines in international sports competitions someday.
“The first ever Ched 2010 Academic and Cultural Festival is a welcome development as it strikes a balance between developing the physical well being of our athletes, and harnessing the beauty, talent and intelligence of the Filipino youth”, she added.
“I personally consider Ched 2010 National Games as a milestone for the Philippine higher education because this is the first time that HEIs, SUCs and LCUs are staging an integrated national sports competition. Adding color to this pioneering spectacle is the first ever Ched 2010 Cultural Festival and Academic Contests,” Angeles said.
The Ched 2010 Academic Contests will be from February 28 to March 4 to be held at the Aldaba Hall of UP Diliman with the following categories: debate, impromptu speech, oration, poetry interpretation and story-telling.
The Ched 2010 Cultural Festival, meanwhile, will be on March 1-5 to be held at the UP Theater and UP Film Institute with the following categories: Tipa at Tugtugan, Likhawit, Awit-Saya Vocal Solo & Duet, Sayawitan, Sayaw Pinoy and the search for Ginoo at Bb. Pamantasan 2010.
The Ched 2010 National Games was made possible by the collaborative efforts of the Private Schools Athletic Association (Prisaa), State Colleges and Universities Athletic Association (Scuaa) and Local Colleges and Universities Athletic Association (LCUAA) in cooperation with the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) and the City of Manila.
