Cooperative earns national award

ANGELES CITY -- Central Luzon’s specialized gown and barong maker cooperative was awarded in the recent 2010 National One Town, One Product (Otop) Awards on Friday.
Bagong Barrio Multi-Purpose Cooperative of Pandi, Bulacan was named National and Luzon Island Outstanding Otop, Micro, Small and Medium Entrepreneur (MSME).

The Otop is a concept designed by the government to spur local entrepreneurial activity and generate local job opportunities. It was launched in the last quarter of 2004 and is now in its 6th year.
Also, Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Regional Director Blesila Lantayona said Saturday that Central Luzon bagged four more honors in the Otop awards.
The Department of Science and Technology Central Luzon branches in Bataan, Bulacan, Pampanga, Tarlac and Zambales got the Most Supportive Partner Organization-Luzon Island title.
Balanga City (Bataan) was given the Best Implementer-Luzon Island prize for its production of processed fish notably "tuyo" and "tinapa."
Lantayona said the winners were judged on their accomplishments particularly in their earnings and the jobs they had generated.
President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo and DTI Secretary Peter Favila presented the Otop awards. (IOF)
