Day care workers' week celebrated

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO - More than 2,000 day care workers in Central Luzon participated in the recent celebration of the Day Care Workers Week.

The celebration dubbed as "Day Care Workers: Katuwang ng Pamilya at Pamahalaan sa Pagtaguyod ng Bright Child Program," was led by the Regional Federation of Day Care Workers and the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office III.

The program is designed to promote camaraderie among the day care workers in the region. The highlight of the event was also to stress the provision of the Bright Child Program.

The event was also aimed to strengthen the partnership with the families, local government units (LGUs) and community and also to familiarize them with the Magna Carta for Day Care Workers and Executive Order No. 685 or Expanding the Pre-school coverage to include children enrolled in day care centers and the Bright Child Program.

In an interview with Director Adelina S. Apostol of the DSWD Field Office III, she said day care workers are partners of the parents in molding the characters of the children.

Apostol said that there are about 3,768,000 strong day care work force in the entire region.

The highlights of the event included the dance competition among the provincial and city day care federation chapters where Pampanga day care workers won the first place while Palayan City and Aurora Province, got the second and third place, respectively.

In the same event, 1,043 day care workers were recognized for having rendered 15 to 35 years of service as day care workers. The said workers were cited for having exemplified the ideal traits of dedication, commitment and unwavering love for children. (Herbert P. Mapiles)
