District hospital gets ‘signs of light’ from councilor

PORAC -- It may have been a guiding light at the end of a dark or simple a dream come true for medical doctors and staff of the Porac District Hospital, which has been literally in the dark for 29 years. The time of darkness has passed, thanks to the efforts of First Councilor Dexter David.

Dr. Merlyn Baquiran, officer in charge of the hospital, told Sun.Star last Tuesday that she and the entire medical staff of the Porac District Hospital are very much grateful to David for donating two Panaflex signages.

Baquiran said she requested the two signs, particularly the one bearing the hospital’s name and another for the emergency room, from David during a chance meeting several days ago.

“I was surprised when Councilor Dexter (David) visited me on Monday and delivered the two signages. I didn't expect the request to be granted immediately. This is a big help to our patients, especially during the night. They will be able to see the hospital immediately,” Baquiran said.

She explained that since the hospital’s establishment in 1980, no illuminated signs were placed, making it hard for patients to find the hospital, which is located in Barangay Babo Sacan.

“Our wish to give light to the hospital has been fulfilled. This is a big relief to our patients, not only from Porac but also those from neighboring towns,” Baquiran said.

The Porac District Hospital has a 25-bed capacity and serves about 40 to 60 patients a day, mostly from this town and nearby municipalities of Sta. Rita, Floridablanca, and Guagua.

Meanwhile, David said he personally shouldered the expenses of the signages, saying that despite the meager resources of members of the municipal council, such worthy and needed projects must be addressed.

“Even if we know the municipal council members practically don’t have funds because our mandate is to make laws, we have opted to source out our own funds to have the request granted. I believe that these signs not only give light, they also save the lives of the patients,” David said.

David is the son of the late Porac Mayor Roy David and incumbent 2nd District Board Member Edna David.

The young SB member together with his mother BM David recently co-sponsored a medical and dental mission at the Model Community (Tokwing) and Barangay Sta. Cruz a week ago, saying that aside from health services, he is also focus on educational programs, environmental protection, livelihood and job opportunities, and skills training for indigent members of the community.

How time ripples by, but

How time ripples by, but memories leave traces behind. If the Roy David & son are from Porac this reader has memories of Atchi Biling & husband. Priming/Primo David could be their parents/grandparents...I have designed & built projects for them. They’re great, cheerful, & topnotch clients.
