Dogs dying mysteriously

CANDABA -- Animal lovers in Barangay San Agustin in this town are in a quandary as to the mysterious deaths of their pet dogs.

Sun.Star Pampanga learned that at least 20 dogs have mysteriously died and several others have fallen ill in a three-week span in the month of August.

Ryan Aga, owner of an American boxer dog which subsequently died after it fell ill, claimed the massive death of dogs in their place has become alarming.

“Our dogs here died on a daily basis and we think this is not natural. I think something has to be done to determine the causes of death.”

Aga said he even consulted a veterinarian regarding the sickness of his pet and the incidents of unexplained deaths of dogs in their barangay.

He disclosed his three-year-old American boxer pet named “Alexander of Rees” was given proper medication, vitamins, milk and dog food but still died for an unknown reason.

Amalia Manalastas, a resident here, also narrated that her sister’s two dog pets also died last week.

With this, the residents urged local officials and the municipal veterinarian to look into the incidents to save the remaining dogs in the area.

The pet owners believe the outmost consideration for now is the safety of the people in the village. “We must be assured by proper authorities that we are safe despite of what happened to some of our dogs here,” they added.

(Herbert P. Mapiles)
