CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- SM Foundation Inc. (SMFI), SM Cares, SM Supermalls, and the Department Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) in Central Luzon have joined efforts in
helping flood victims through its Operation Tulong Express project from Thursday until Saturday.
Living by the motto "People Helping People", SM Foundation, the socio-civic arm of the SM Group of Companies, launched the "Operation Tulong Express" relief efforts, a charity campaign which distributed over a total of 1,800 relief goods to affected families in different areas in the province.
SM distributed relief goods to evacuees at the San Fernando Elementary School, San Isidro Integrated School and Quebiawan Elementary School in City of San Fernando; Barangay San Vicente in Apalit; Barangay San Esteban and Sitio Mindanao in Macabebe. The relief goods were distributed by volunteer employees of SM City Pampanga, SM City San Fernando Downtown and SM Savemore Apalit.
Personnel from SM City San Fernando Downtown started collecting donations through their OPTE bin located at the ground level of their mall.
"We maybe a small mall but our hearts are big in helping those who are in need," Ma. Lana O. Erroba, Mall Manager of SM City San Fernando Downtown said.
SM Mall Admin Employees, SM Affiliates (The SM Store, SM Supermarket, SM Appliance, BDO, Watsons, Ace Hardware & SM Cinema), including security and agency personnel gave donations in their own little ways. Mall tenants also shared donations like clothes, blankets, noodles, rice, water and biscuits.
All year round, SM Foundation conducts charity projects under four areas of advocacy -- education through scholarship programs and donations of schoolhouses; health-oriented projects like medical missions, mobile clinics and hospital activity centers; religious community projects and mall-based outreach programs.
Ongoing mall-based "Operation Tulong Express" booths are located in all SM malls nationwide wherein mall goers may share their extras in kind like relief goods, clothes, blankets etc. SM Foundation has partnered with Caritas Manila all over the country to accept all mall donations in kind.
