Mandaluyong Exhibit features works of Kapampangan artists

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- The works of two Kapampangan artists are now on display at an art exhibit in a mall in Mandaluyong City along with other prominent contemporary artists.

The exhibit dubbed “Nazarene: Faith and Passion” is now on display at Galerie Anna at the 4th Floor of SM Megamall Building A. The event features the works of Kapampangan artists Presidential Merit Awardee for Ecclesiastical Art Wilfredo Layug and award winning sculptor Edwin Layug.

The Layug brothers join notable artists like Ricky Ambagan, Grandier Bella, Thomas Daguioag, Joseph de Juras, Jun Impas, Marge Lim, Noli Manalang, Mario Panis and Cris Tuazon in honoring the recent feast of the Black Nazarene of Manila.

The exhibit that opened last January 7 will run until January 27. The works include sculptures and paintings depicting many of facets of the Nazarene devotion. The event is also an exposition of the best works of Filipino visual artists today.

The life-size works of Willy Layug and Edwin Layug, the “Gran Poder” (Great Power) and the Scourging at the Pillar are currently the center pieces of the exhibit which is free and open to the public.

The Layug brothers said that the exhibit is also a way of showcasing Kapampangan artistry and craftsmanship in the light of the current contemporary art scene.
