REPRESENTING a musical play, "Beauty Parlor" is set to be staged at Bren Z. Guiao Community Center, City of San Fernando on June 4, 6:30 p.m.
Sizzling with creativity, color and clashes of personalities, it profiles an empowering entertainment extravaganza. Enlivening scenes in the Mela Gulapa Beauty Parlor in Barrio Maimpis in our Pampanga Landscape, it truly reflects our Kapampangan passion for good looks. News of the forthcoming beauty rivalry (Mutya ng Maimpis Beauty Pageant) galvanizes, gathers and generates electric energy among the barrio's citizenry.
Breaking through the barriers of economic/social classes, local folks are abuzz over the competition. Aristocratic personages vis-a-vis struggling women peasants; agricultural workers competing with the "alta sociedad" (rich/famous) people; ultimately, we are enthralled and enamored with its plot, setting and characterization.
What a stirring display of desires, delirious delusions and dreams. Do watch it. Get your tickets, in Angeles City at the Kapampangan Center (Holy Angels University), Perfect Loaf, Ocampo's and Museo ning Angeles; in San Fernando City at Nathaniel's, Sunshine Supermarket and Dimsum vs Sushi (Northwalk).

Director Andy Alviz is a man fired up with theatrical mission.
Involving people in bringing Kapampangan music and culture to a wider appreciation, he established the Teatru Ima at Arti, also known as MaARTI. This non-profit theater group is composed entirely of women aged fifty years and above. The group's maiden offering, Ima, a Kapampangan Musical in 2009, is a testimony to an unforgettable masterpiece. Its success resulted in several repeat performances, including one at the Cultural Center of the Philippines.
MaARTI's advocacy is women empowerment through the arts. Proceeds from all its productions will fund causes for the advancement of education, spiritual development and women's welfare (such as foundations for battered women), as well as other worthy charitable institutions.
