Spreading its magic seeds in this year of the tiger (Chinese calendar) is the art of loving. Showered by its thousand joys, we feel alive, animated and amazed at the leaping energy that runs through our veins when we know love.
Its power overcomes the young and the old, female or male, poor or rich and the strong and the weak. Cutting across every nation on earth, even, intersecting our earth and the heavens. Excitement, expectation and endearing words are the main tools of its devotedness.
Hit by the Cupid's arrow, a person is changed forever when she/he embraces this dynamic treasure of attachment. One is so lighthearted that his/her feet barely touch the ground.

First love
Remember the first time you fell in love?
Your eyes widened in anticipation before meeting your beloved; your cheeks reddened like a red hot tomato; truly, your heart beat like a hundred African drums pounding across the desert.
How about your perception of time?
Clock chimes stand silent, still and slow when you and your partner are apart. Whoa! In total contrast, the hands of time race like a hopping Bugs Bunny rabbit when you are in the presence of your inamorata.
How about your surroundings?
When you and I are infatuated, the sun splashes dots and dashes of pink, orange and lavender. You smell the ylang ylang blossoms open your heart in tenderness, affection and romance. Music literally blows away your mind. You find yourself humming this today's hit song in our Philippine airwaves:
"Hawak kamay...hindi kita iiwan sa mundo ng kawalan... hawak kamay....Holding hands…I will not leave you alone in the world of nothingness..."
How long does it last?
Psychologists, basing their work on research, conclude that this infatuation state can be sustained from three months to three years. Thereafter, the other cycles of love appear in view. These are the other two valuable levels in the art of love - reality check and real commitment. Let me write and explain further about these two topics in my future columns.
