BACOLOR -- The Kapampangan Development Foundation (KDF) received over the weekend medical equipment from an American non-government organization (NGO), for the operation of the Jesus A. Datu Medical Center (JADMC) here.
World Medical Relief, Inc. (WMRI), a multi-funded, non-profit charitable organization based in Detroit, Michigan, made the donation through Dr. George Samson who is a Kapampangan based in the United States.
The donations included hospital equipment, beds and other hospital-related furnishings.
Samson said that the organization collects financial donations and goods, including medical, dental, and laboratory items, purchases and distributes such commodities to organizations and institutions and other recognized beneficiaries all across the world.
KDF trustee Sylvia Ordonez told Sun.Star Pampanga that the donation would facilitate the full operation of the JADMC.
She said that equipment will greatly help in the operation of the public hospital that would cater to the health needs of indigents and those under the KDF health and surgery programs.
The facility is dedicated to the memory of Dr. Jesus A. Datu, who dedicated a great part of his life in organizing medical missions for indigent Kapampangans and donating a part of his resources for the construction of a medical hospital, Ordonez said.
Datu died of pancreatic cancer in 2008. His family later visited their roots here and constructed the JADMC in a 1,750-square meter land using the life savings of their patriarch. It was Datu's dying wish that a hospital dedicated to the poor be constructed in this town.
Currently, the hospital is being managed by the Love for Life Foundation (LLF), the Datu Angeles David Memorial (DADMF) Foundation, JADMC and the KDF through a memorandum of agreement signed late last year.
Ordonez said that the facility is accepting donations from partners and other non-government groups.
"We are very thankful to the World Medical Relief, we hope that they continue to help us and other organizations in Pampanga so that we can contribute to the betterment of health services in our province," Ordonez said.
Meanwhile, KDF President Benigno N. Ricafort said that they envision JADMC to be the center of non-government assistance and quality health care provider in the province in the coming months.
