CITY OF SAN FERNANDO – The Knights of Columbus turned-over 72 newly repaired chairs to Santo Niño Elementary School (SNES) here Tuesday.
Grand Knight Nathaniel Paras and Councilor Jimmy Lazatin led the turn-over that was witnessed by SNES Principal Nestor Lingat and Department of Education (DepEd) Supervisor Gerry Marin.

The chairs, according to Lingat, were stored in their bodega for 10 years.
“We thought they were to remain as junk and will no longer be of good use for the school. Until the 10R Project of Councilor Lazatin and the sponsorship of the Knight of Columbus made it possible for the school to save resources by having these said chairs repaired at no expense on the part of the DepEd and sparing them from procuring new chairs which at present cost is at P950 each,” Lingat said.
Councilor Lazatin tapped the group to join him in his 10R Project (Recycle, Repair, Refurbish, Restore, Remodel, Repaint, Renew, Redistribute, and Reuse) that aims to restore old chairs, desks, tables for further use and maximize scrap materials that can be used to construct school furniture.
Also present in the ceremony were officers from the Knights of Columbus Council 3709.
Students and teachers expressed gratitude to Lazatin and to the Knight of Columbus in a simple program held at the SNES covered court. (Ian Ocampo Flora)
