Flavors of Indonesia at Mequeni-A A +A
Thursday, August 22, 2013
WHEN I was on my way to Holiday Inn Clark recently for the Padang Food Festival, I could not help but think that years ago, I frequented the place. Literally, I almost grew up with it.
I remember featuring most of its activities and promotions in the past and have become close with Mimosa people way, way back. Well, nice to be back.
THE Mequeni Restaurant, located at the ground floor of Holiday Inn Clark, is the hotel's restaurant famous for its international and local cuisine. It boasts of its mouthwatering breakfast, lunch and dinner buffets. For this rainy month of August, from the 16th till the 31st, "Makanan Enak – Padang Food Festival" lets the diners enjoy this special buffet of the Padang cuisine for lunch and dinner as prepared by guest Chefs Atep Supian and Dudi Zaenudin from the Holiday Inn Resort Batam Indonesia.
Padang food is the cuisine of the Minangkabau people and is famous for its variety and rich taste of coconut milk and spices. As the range of Padang cuisine is enormous, Chefs Supian and Zaenudin have only picked family favorites for the festival, hence the term in Bahasa Indonesia "Makanan Enak" meaning good food.
During the festival opening, Holiday Inn Clark's GM Michael Melzer expressed his enthusiasm for the 16-day foodfest and gratitude to their supportive sponsors like airline Cebu Pacific and the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Manila. He is also thankful to their sister property Holiday Inn Resort Batam for partnering in creating the exciting food repertoire for Holiday Inn Clark guests.
Simple, yet colorful and tasty, these are how I described the Padang dishes prepared by these young chefs from Indonesia. The food festival showcased Gado Gado (Indonesian Salad served with Peanut Sauce), Soto Ayam Soup (Herbal Chicken Soup), Daging Rendang (Beef Stew in Flavorful Paste), Ayam Penyet (Double Cooked Chicken with Herbs); Sambal Goreng Udang (Prawn Cooked in Chili Paste); Gulai Sotong (Squid in Curry Gravy); Satay Ayam than Daging (The Internationally Known Satay served with Peanut Sauce), some Indonesian sweets and a whole lot more! Alongside the Padang dishes are the international and local fares which Mequeni Restaurant has been renowned for. The weekly themed buffets of Italian, Carvery and Seafood are still on!
Enjoy Indonesia flavors at Mequeni! Experience the fun, artistry and passion of these two Indonesian chefs at Holiday Inn Clark through the "Makanan Enak – Padang Food Festival." Happening till August 31st, make your reservations now at (02)845-1888 or (045)599-8000 and have a feast of your palate!
